Poly.Glut & Q Station 2022
The images below illustrate a collaboration between Jane Gillings and Lucy Barker who were invited by 'Les Sculptures Refusees' to be the inaugural artists in residence at Q Station, North head, NSW. The artists were asked to respond to the historic quarantine station, now called Q Station, and present their work mid 2021. Due to disruption from Covid 19 the exhibition was postponed until January 2022.
During their time exploring the site, the artists discovered a deep narrow cave in the cliffs off the southern point of Q station near the old quarantine hospital. The cave was full of predominantly polystyrene rubbish that had been blown and washed in from the ocean. It was impossible to ignore, and the artists proceeded to clean out the cave.
This exhibition employs the found material to address issues around waste, human impact on the environment, colonisation, deception and more.
